I like Wednesdays....

......most weeks. It is sort of a 'me' day, I guess. It is usually the day when I really have nothing pressing, no laundry, no preparation for Bible Study, or Choir, unless I feel like it. It's a 'what do I want to do today' kind of day, most weeks, except for the week I have to bake for the card party at the community hall. Today, I like today, though it isn't over yet.

My little bird friends were almost out of feed (tsk, tsk), and so I decided I would head out early for a trip to town, get some seed, go to the library, and pick up some small labels, which I use for the books that I put on the church library shelves. I was almost out of them, and I have a lot of books to prepare. The day was supposed to get a bit messy, but I managed to get there and back before the freezing rain began.

I went to this store, which has just about anything you could possibly think of, usually at a cheaper price. I think they get their things from closing out sales and such. This is where I got my labels.....but sometimes I just have to go on a buying binge. So I splurged, and spent about $13, on things I really didn't need now, but will eventually, I'm pretty sure, maybe in a month or six months or so...... I have this thing for pens, and paper, which seems weird as I sit here typing. But, I am a note-maker, I am always jotting down things, and, well, you get the idea.

Here is my treasure.....

In that pile of stuff is a chain, for my glasses, which I will wear, though it reminds me of old cartoons of the grumpy teacher. I has become a necessity, because I am always setting my glasses down, and then when I do need them, I have to go looking. I really only need them for reading and close up work. (with my pens and paper). It is great fun when playing the organ or piano, since I have another pair that I use to see the music, since it is far enough away, the reading glasses don't work. However, if I look out into the congregation with those glasses on, everybody is blurred. I am always changing glasses, since I need my regular glasses for reading the bulletin etc. Oh, it is great fun. So, I guess the chain was a necessity. The other things were just icing.

Now, I think I have to write a few notes to myself.....Where did I put my pen and paper? :)

Blue, blue, blue...

The day before yesterday was Blue Monday, or at least that is what I heard on the radio. What is blue Monday? Why is it different than any other Monday of the year? Is there a green Monday, a purple Monday? I know there is a black Friday, before Christmas, but blue Monday? So I did what most people do in this day and age, and I asked Google. Here’s what I found.

Blue Monday is a name given to a date in mid-to-late January stated, as part of a publicity campaign by Sky Travel, to be the most depressing day of the year. However, the whole concept is considered pseudoscience,[1] with its formula derided by scientists as nonsense.

I figured as much. If this was the case, then I should also celebrate (and I use the term lightly) Blue Tuesday, Blue Wednesday, Blue Thur………well, you get the idea.
Let’s see now…we’ve got Blue Moon, Blue Christmas, Blueberry Hill, and Blue Monday.
I must say, I’m feeling the blues……..

Our weather would make anyone blue, even the people who like snow. Last Saturday looked like this,

and then Sunday, it warmed, and the wind blew and it looked like this.

When thinking about blog ideas, I thought perhaps I could come up with something a bit more interesting than this weather, but the only other thing I could think of was the ‘Windsor Hum’.
Apparently Windsor, Ontario citizens are hearing a strange hum, and there have been about 400 complaints about this noise, and the government has given some funds to help discover what is causing it. Some think it is coming from Detroit, which is right across the river. Well, I wish them, whoever is doing the investigating, luck. Someone suggested that Windsor use the noise as a tourist attraction. Come to Windsor, the home of the hum.
The reason this news event caught my attention is because Windsor is where I grew up. It has changed a lot since then, since I left when I was 23, and moved to Nova Scotia. I do not miss it, the grit and grime in the air, the traffic which is a lot worse now, and the noise (not hum). Nova Scotia is definitely my favorite place now.

It is bitterly cold out today, -15 with wind and snow falling, and the ground is covered once again with its white blanket. I have to get up enough courage to go to the drugstore to get my prescriptions. Brrrrrrrr.

I hope wherever you are, you are enjoying your day. Stay warm.

I'm back......

The weather has been crazy here in Nova Scotia, at least here in the valley. During the first part of this week, the temperature was above freezing, and now, though the sun is brightly shining, the wind is cold and the temperature is -14. The older I get, it seems, the more the cold of winter bothers me. I really don’t dislike winter, the snow makes beautiful scenes, as it falls on the dead earth, but I don’t like the snow covered and slippery roads, but who does?

I made my last visit to the eye doctor, at least for a while. My eye is finally healed completely, after four months. My left eye now needs to be done, but the doc feels I need a few months before we do it, since he doesn’t know whether it will react in the same way as the right. It may not, (which I’m hoping), or there is a possibility that it will. NUTS! At least I don’t have to think about it for 3 months or so.

I am finally back to regular routine, which gets me out of the house, by necessity. Otherwise, I think I might be like the bear, and hibernate. I do go out and feed the birds, but as for going anywhere else….. not too keen, partly because the cold makes my body so sore, and the legs don’t work right. When I say that they don’t work right, I mean that they lose strength and then begin to pain at the hip. It can happen rather quickly if the snow is deep. If I were to go off the road with the car, into a ditch, I’d have to just stay there and freeze to death, because I could not walk anywhere for help. Now, I take my cell with me, just in case. In my mind, I would love to be cross country skiing, or hiking through the woods. In reality, I do it vicariously, through the blogs that I read. I guess I should be thankful that I can walk at all. I know others with Fibro, that suffer so much more.

The ground was visible the first of the week, and now it is covered again. That's the way she goes. If nothing else, the weather is certainly not boring.
  • And we're casted....

Lindsay fell at school Tuesday and is now sporting a cast. Naturally, she is right-handed. She has to keep this cast on for a week to ten days, then another x-ray, and a new cast. She's doing ok. By now, the cast is covered with a multitude of signatures.
Cheers till next time.

You never know...

....what you'll see when you wake up in the morning. This morning it was a "new lawn ornament", or more specifically, a ditch ornament.

Thankfully, the driver was ok. This happened last evening. Slippery roads can sneak up on you, no matter where you live.

Trying something different....

to see if I can get pictures on my blog. Here's hoping.....

It works.....Yay...Had to go the Chrome to accomplish this as Explorer is still not working.

Here are the 2 males
They actually dig way down in the snow to find the apples

A shot of all five pheasant

This is the pesky little squirrel who thinks I am feeding him...

There has been a lot of snow.

We had a bit of a storm, and since then there have been flurries just about every day, until yesterday. It has been very cold, but now temperatures are rising. That's Nova Scotia for you. Days of minus temperatures moves to temperature in the plus digits. It was warm enough yesterday, with the sun melting some snow, and then, of course it froze through the night, making the roads somewhat icy.

Looking out the window at blue skies and sun right now, and happy I could post these pictures. Thank you Chrome. :)

I Got Them...

but the pictures are not that great. I had to take them from inside the house, through a window, but you can see that there are five pheasants, 2 male, and 3 female.

They are under the apple trees, in the backyard, and they will dig down in the snow to find the apples that are there on the ground.

Well! I just went to upload my pictures and I am having problems. If at first you don't succeed, try again....
and again.....
and again..............
and again.................

I'm not sure what is going on, but I can't browse through my photos. If you use your imagination, can you see them? No? Ok, I'll try later on.

....And I was so excited about getting the picture, I couldn't wait to share.....

New Year Bears

These are my New Year bears, because I made them between Christmas and New Years, while the snow fell and the wind blew. Last Sunday was bitterly cold and we had a large amount of snow fall. Everything was cancelled, including church, which is a good thing, because I would never have made it out of the driveway. We were snowed right in. Since then, it has been windy and very cold, and I have not been out on the road at all. I even had difficulty trudging through the snow to feed the birds.

This is a couple of days after the storm

Jack Frost painted a nice ice picture on my window.
I could only see the forms of the birds through the ice.

A view from the other side.

Little snow birds feeding on the ground.

There have been several pheasants around the feed and the back yard apple trees. I have not been able to get a picture of them, but I will continue to try. They are very nervous and notice even a small movement from the window.

We are still getting snow showers. Folks call it "showers off the Bay"(of Fundy). Just lucky I guess.

Sadie did not like the sound of the wind,
and wanted to stay on my lap.
She's a nervous nelly when it comes to wind, or thunder.

Wishing all a very Happy New Year
